I just heard from a reliable source that Road and Track will be shuttering after 70 years. Kind of a bummer, but does anyone still read R&T?

Damn. That sucks. I like their reviews and technical articles. and I like this section

You mean Road and Travis ™

But seriously, always grabbed a copy when on a flight. Looks like I'll have to go to reading books or something.

I did until maybe 2000, then just lost interest in cars for a while I explored other hobbies. Why pay for print media when you can read everything on-line.

I hadn’t looked at it in years, but it was nice knowing it was there.

All of road and track or just the print magazine?

Well that sucks. I loved Peter Egan’s articles, especially the Side Glances he used to write . Hope he starts a blog.

I’m not sure, actually , but it seems like at least the print version.

I’d like their ‘content’ more if it wasn’t always those insipid click-through listicles of stock photos and a three-sentence “paragraph.”
Shame that Mate will lose another place to publish though. I genuinely liked his contributions on the front page.

I used to read C&D, MT and R&T. Had to cut back. Down to C&D and MT. Haven’t picked up a copy in years.

Print media is all but dead at this point but they still have a strong enough web presence that I doubt the entire company would go under.

Does this mean we have to take Travis back?

I had a subscription and would read it on flights. I liked the magazine but some of the ads were ridiculous. I’m aware I’m not the target audience, but still.

I’ve said this before on here but I used to be SO pumped when the car magazines came each month. I subscribed to all of the major ones (car and driver, road and track, automobile, and motor trend). The damn internet ruins everything.
I grew up near a Ferrari dealer and sometimes I’d see cars a month or so before I read about them. Now we know every detail of every car a year before you can even get your hands on one. Some c ars like the new NSX and new Supra live and die before they are even released!

Makes sense. Print magazines are dying left and right because it’s becoming increasingly difficult to be profitable.
Advertising $$$ is more effectively spent having you r product strategically placed in the butt cheek region of a highly viewed Instagram model’s pic.

Noooo! I’ve just been re-reading their 50th anniversary issue for fun (well, you saw that :) ). That’s a shame, I’ve liked them better than the other US mags. I had subscription for a long time, until I moved around a lot, and the shop subscribes so I always read the latest. I realize I’m probably an outlier for a guy my age, but I still much prefer reading print magazines to their webby versions . Sam Smith is gold, he’s been picking up where Peter Egan left off with Side Glances. Hope he finds another place that enables him to publish his musings so freely .

Side Glances was bedtime reading for me in the 80's, love it. I recommend you read Sam Smith’s stuff. He’s picking up where Peter left off, though Peter does still occasionally come out for R&T stories.

I call BS. Say it ain’t so, the only magazine with a stellar lineup of writers at the moment - perhaps moving it all online, but there is something special about paper and beautiful photos.

I stopped reading due to the editorials.

I got an offer for Road and Track, Car and Driver, and Popular Mechanics for a year of paper magazines for $15, so yeah I still read a paper version. But I’m old and prefer paper over trying to read on my phone.

First Hemmings Sports and exotics now this.
I had an older relative always get me a subscription. Given how the price hadn’t changed and how thin it has gotten (including the 8 page weatehrtech ads) it was kind of matter of when. When I would travel i would read it cover to cover, but I dont do that nearly as often. Also a big factor was I cared less and less of the Ferrari reviews. When I was 14 I ate them up all day long, but now I appreciate the classic racing or vintige stories more.

I’ve been a subscriber for about 38 years. Oh well. So much for serious auto journalism.... A good read though I agree the web has killed most of my print reading.

Only times I read is when I’m flying, one of my first choices actually . Or when Philipilihp sends me one.
I used to be highly intrigued by ‘m as most of the cars in it were off-limits for us Euro boys. That has become lesser though.

I can’t remember the last time I looked at one. Even when I see it, whatever is on the cover doesn’t seem to interest me. But, apparently some of the writers are good. They haven’t announced anything, yet, but I met Lieberman for lunch the other day and he was on the phone with someone who works there that told him this news.
I used to like the British car mags for that
reason, but it’s the same with them now as well.

No confirmation anywhere yet?
British must have been even more exotic with those weird RHD cars. Great sense of humor in those as well, loved CAR magazine and Top Gear Magazine.

No, weird. He was definitely on the phone with someone who was giving him this news. Maybe it was fake news. Or, they changed their mind.
Yeah, I was always a fan of the British sense of humor. Especially when it came to cars. And, as a kid I was amazed they had Fords that were nothing like our Fords. That was mind blowing before I understood how the automotive industry works.

Or, he was playing mind tricks on you, Jedi mind tricks. Or... It was a test to verify your ability to keep a secret. FAILED!
Wait: You understand how the automotive industry works????

Haha. He never said it was a secret. Maybe it was Car and Driver.

Real friends know when to keep their mouths shut, I’m really starting to think this was just a test...
But you could make tonnes of money by sharing this knowledge. And think about all the good you can bring to the Wanke r l with this knowledge. And money.

Well, since they haven’t packed up the tent, yet, we should get that prototype built pronto. I can see a glowing cover story in exchange for keeping our mou ths shut.
